Personal Tax Services

Whether you have a large portfolio and complex financial needs, or whether your affairs are relatively straightforward but, for whatever reason, you have to file annual returns with SARS, we can help.

Why must I complete a tax return?

As an employee, you probably meet all of your tax responsibilities to the ‘Tax Man’, using the PAYE system. But there are times when submitting a tax return can be worthwhile for reducing the amount of tax you have to pay, or because you are obligated to under SARS rules.

This may happen if you:

  • Are self-employed or in a partnership
  • Are a company director
  • Have sizeable savings
  • Have untaxed savings
  • Have income from investments
  • Are a landlord and rent out property
  • Have income from a source overseas
  • Earn benefits from a trust
  • Earn income from a pension
  • Have sold or given away an asset, such as shares or a holiday home
  • Have lived or worked overseas, or aren’t domiciled in South Africa

Even if you are not generating a profit, completing a tax return may be compulsory and, even if not legally required, a tax return could lower your tax bill. Completing one voluntarily can perhaps benefit you.

Unsure whether completing a voluntary tax return is a good idea for you?

What can Equality do for me?

We will take a detailed look at your finances to fully understand the big picture.

  • Prepare your tax return and check your financial position, because you suspect your employer collected too much tax.

  • Prepare your tax return because you receive untaxed income from savings or properties or have an annual income above R500,000.
  • Claim a tax refund from SARS on your behalf.

  • Check your tax code to ensure the tax collected by your employer each month is correct. When you have income from multiple employers, this can often go wrong.
  • If you have incurred expenses from your regular job, we can complete the forms to claim the tax back on your behalf. This might be for items such as business mileage, hotel accommodation, meals while travelling, business phone calls and professional subscriptions.

  • We can give you a fixed price so that we can take the worry away when it comes to meeting your responsibilities and deadlines – whilst ensuring that you pay only the right amount of tax and not a penny more!
